The Fire & Ice Facial
Whilst many of us may experience that ‘pregnancy glow’, once the baby pops out our skin often tells a different story.
The combination of stress, hormonal changes and extreme tiredness that comes with having a new baby can quickly take a toll on our skin. And though the call of the needle may be all too tempting, for breastfeeding mums, the likes of botox and other popular treatments (including fillers, micro-needling and lasers), are still off the cards.
The Fire & Ice Facial is breastfeeding friendly treatment that still packs a punch. Anti-ageing, resurfacing, purifying and rejuvenating, the treatment has developed somewhat of a cult following thanks to it’s signature combination of ‘fire & ice’ therapeutic masques by the beauty editor fave, iSC Clinical.
Pioneered in Beverly Hills (the home of the red carpet treatments) and loved by the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow and Halle Berry, the Fire & Ice Facial produces maximum results with zero down time. Keen to give my post pregnancy skin a much needed boost, I hastily book in with MEDfacials, Truro.
My first treatment since having baby number three, just two months prior and the sleep deprivation has already impacted my skin. Dehydrated, dull and tired looking, it’s in prime condition to put this A-List favourite to the test.
Following the all important deep cleanse, the Fire & Ice Facial begins with an intensive Resurfacing Masque. Clinically formulated with 18% unbuffered glycolic cis, citric acid, lactic acid, magic acid, vitamin B3, Retinol and potent antioxidants, this powerful yet painless masque is applied to the face, neck and décolleté for between two-to-five minutes (depending on what your skin can tolerate). Known as the ‘fire’ portion of the treatment, due to the warming tingling sensation it creates, the resurfacing masque works to remove dull dead skin and encourage cell turnover for a brighter looking complexion. Once it’s worked its magic, the masque is removed and followed by a further cleanse before moving on to the ‘Ice’ phase of the facial.
The “Ice”, while not actual ice, is a wonderfully cooling, soothing and intensively hydrating Masque containing hyaluronic acid, Japanese green tea extracts, aloe vera gel, liquorice extracts, rosemary extracts and grape seed extracts. Helping to cool the skin following the peel, it rehydrates, plumps and invigorates the skin for total rejuvenation.
After a final cleanse, application of a moisturising serum and a strong sunscreen, the facial is over and I am free to leave. Before I do, I take quick peep in the mirror to analyse the results. And I have to say, the rumours don’t lie. Gone is the dull, dry skin of a sleep deprived mum and in its place is something a whole lot healthier in appearance. Plump and deeply hydrated, my previously tried looking complexion is fresh, rejuvenated and ready to face another day.
Perfect as a one-off skin rejuvenation treatment, for more intensive and long-lasting results, MEDfacails recommend a program of six to optimise your skin. We say, no matter which option you go for, your skin is in for a treat!
