Discover North Devon's Watersmeet Hotel: The Perfect Family Retreat

Nestled on the scenic cliffs of North Devon’s Atlantic coast, Watersmeet Hotel & Restaurant offers families an unforgettable seaside escape. Recently named the Best Waterside Hotel for UK and Ireland 2024 by Condé Nast Johansen, this charming Edwardian gem combines classic elegance with modern comforts for a relaxed and enjoyable stay.

The drive to Watersmeet is as scenic as it gets. Along the coastal road, families are treated to stunning views of the sea and dramatic cliffs, setting the tone for a memorable getaway.

Our family stayed in one of the Deluxe Sea View Family Rooms, which offered plenty of space and a balcony with ocean views. These rooms are designed with families in mind, featuring comfortable sleeping arrangements and thoughtful amenities like coffee/tea making facilities, a Nespresso machine, and a safe. The balcony, equipped with sun loungers and seating, was perfect for enjoying morning coffee while taking in the stunning coastal views or winding down with late-night drinks under the stars. The room's en-suite bathroom with a shower over the bath added to our convenience, ensuring everyone could freshen up with ease.

For families who love the beach and surfing, Watersmeet is ideal. The hotel has private steps leading directly to Combesgate Beach, where kids can enjoy building sandcastles, exploring rock pools, and splashing in the waves. The beach is often peaceful and uncrowded, providing a safe and enjoyable environment for children. Nearby Woolacombe is perfect for surfing, with surf schools available for beginners. We spent hours riding the waves and soaking up the vibrant surf culture, creating lasting memories.

The surrounding natural beauty is awe-inspiring, with Watersmeet located near several National Trust coastal trails, including Morte Point and Baggy Point. These trails offer stunning views of the rugged coastline and lush countryside, providing endless opportunities for family hikes and exploration. Each walk introduced us to new aspects of North Devon’s landscape, from dramatic cliffs to serene valleys, making it an adventure for the whole family. For those seeking adventure, activities like kayaking, coasteering, and horse riding are easily accessible, offering something for everyone. Golf enthusiasts can enjoy world-class links courses nearby, while nature lovers will appreciate the diverse wildlife and scenic vistas.

Dining at Watersmeet is a treat for the whole family. We started our mornings with a delightful continental breakfast, featuring an array of freshly baked pastries, fruits, yogurts, and cereals, perfect for kids and adults alike. The Rocks Restaurant offers delicious meals made from locally sourced ingredients, including mouthwatering vegetarian dishes like cheese soufflés and mushroom risottos. The menu includes kid-friendly favorites like homemade pizzas, fish and chips, and pasta dishes, ensuring that even the pickiest eaters are satisfied. Pre-dinner cocktails on the deck, overlooking the bay, were a highlight for the adults, while the kids enjoyed their own special drinks and the fresh sea air.

When it's time to unwind, Watersmeet offers a variety of family-friendly amenities. The hotel's heated outdoor pool, indoor pool with a hot spa, and steam room provide the perfect retreat for families to relax and recharge after a day of exploration. We found the pools particularly refreshing and the hot spa soothing after our outdoor adventures. Spa treatments are also available for those looking for some extra pampering, offering families a luxurious way to rejuvenate together. The blend of these amenities with the natural beauty of the surroundings creates a serene and enjoyable experience for all ages.

With its stunning location, family-friendly amenities, and range of activities, Watersmeet Hotel & Restaurant is the perfect choice for a memorable family holiday on the North Devon coast. Whether you're exploring coastal trails, riding the waves, or simply relaxing by the sea, Watersmeet offers something for everyone.
