The Natural Facelift with Su-Man
Are you frightened of needles? Afraid of looking frozen with Botox or ending up with pillow-face from filler? Too scared to insert threads into your face for an uplift?
Bearing in mind all of which we at Editors Beauty have endured… Su-Man’s legendary facelift facial could be the answer you’ve been looking for.
I met Su-Man at the luxury Away Spa at the W Hotel in Leicester Square, London. I sat nursing my Saturday morning hangover in the peaceful waiting room hoping that the Skin Reborn Sculpting Facial that I was about to experience would miraculously refresh my partied out skin. Su-Man gave a warm welcome as she introduced herself and led me into the calming and pleasantly warm therapy room.
Instructed to remove my t-shirt, socks and shoes and lie face up on the bed with a warm towel over me Su-Man analysed my skin. She noted, that like many Caucasian women, my skin was thinning with age and that it seemed quite sensitive to touch.
Su-Man’s facial is unique as she combines her oriental facial massage technique with her passion for dance, Shiatsu and Pilates. It has been hailed as the ‘facelift in an hour’ and ‘the natural alternative to Botox’ by celebrities and beauty editors alike.
The facial follows the usual steps: a deep cleanse, followed by the removal of any impurities, exfoliation, toner and finally moisturiser. However, the difference is the way that Su-Man works with your skin, expertly massaging, tapping and manipulating the surface area allowing her specifically designed products to sink their way far into the dermis. This is combined with a superbly relaxing deep tissue massage to the neck, hands, arms and feet. Each massage stroke is repeated in multiples of six in accordance to the ancient Chinese belief that the number six is lucky and helps lead the individual to a perfect state of health and happiness. The aim is to re-balance the energy and moisture in the skin, and to reinvigorate all the muscles in the face and surrounding areas.
It was of course blissfully soothing. I lay for 60 minutes while Su-Man attentively kneaded my skin and reduced the tension in my neck and shoulders. In some ways I could describe it as an intense facial massage. Looking at my skin in the mirror immediately afterwards I was a little red (as I mentioned earlier my skin is sensitive to touch). However, the puffiness caused by my excessive drinking the night before seemed diminished and I certainly looked more glowy and alive than I did when I was huddled over in the waiting room. I left feeling like Su-Man had managed to pummel my hungover state out of my face. I can see how this facial could be beneficial on a regular basis by stimulating the muscles in your face and performing lymphatic drainage, it does give you a delicate lift. Had I not been fortunate enough to be offered this exclusive opportunity my face would have remained sallow, pale and sunken for a few days after my Friday night out. However, with this treatment my features appeared lifted and my skin brighter that day and remained looking better for the next couple of days, much better than it would have otherwise.
If you are afraid of needles and want to go the natural route then the Skin Reborn Sculpting Facial might appeal to you. Obviously the effects are not the same as injectables, however, for someone looking for an alternative method to appearing more youthful I would recommend this. The result is subtle but it does make a difference having your face intensely massaged like this. It feels rejuvenating and it puts colour and life back into sullen skin. I’m jumping on the Su-Man bandwagon for sure.
