Are Tear Trough Fillers the Secret to a Fresh Face?

If all the years of sleepless nights have left you looking more like Teresa May, than well, Teresa May, all hope is not lost.
Notoriously hard to treat, dark circles combined with a lack of volume in the under area, can leave us looking tired and older than our years.
Derma fillers are one of the few effective ways of treating dark circles under the eyes and under-eye hollows due to volume loss in a non-surgical procedure called tear treatment.
Keen to find out exactly what the procedure involves, we asked top Facial Aesthetics Specialist Dr Pamela Benito give us the low down on tear trough filler.
Tear Trough Filler with Dr. Pamela Benito
‘As we age, we lose soft tissue volume in the tear trough region where the cheekbone meets the under eye. This ageing change can cause the skin to become more wrinkled giving us tired looking eyes.
With a precise amount of hyaluronic acid filler, we can add volume to the area, reducing the darkness, hollows and wrinkles. It also improves skin quality by boosting collagen production and hydrating skin from the inside, giving the patient a younger, fresher, less tired-looking appearance.
The dermal fillers we use are made from hyaluronic acid – a substance that occurs naturally in the body. These types of fillers are biodegradable, which means that they will gradually be absorbed as the gel breaks down and water takes its place. When totally absorbed, the filler gel disappears unnoticed from the body.
Most patients retain their results for 9-18 months, however precisely how long a tear trough treatment holds its effect is very individual. This depends on many factors, such as your age, skin type, lifestyle, and muscle activity.
We would always recommend a consultation appointment first to assess the patient and decide whether they are suitable for the the treatment.
Tear trough treatment is painless and usually takes 15 minutes with little downtime , you can go back to work immediately after the treatment. The fillers used also contain an anaesthetic making the treatment more comfortable. Bruises and swelling can occur and usually subside within 48 hours.
After two weeks, we recommend a follow-up appointment to review the patient and make sure they are happy with the results. ‘
